I feel like a good-spirited hobbit speaking about the power of polite requests, but I really do think they are a superpower. If he had communicated politely, everything would’ve been different, but anyway, he got what was coming to him. The top two worst things that can happen during a flight are: a baby crying for the entire trip, and your next seat passenger getting up so many times it becomes nerve-racking. The woman in this story turned out to be especially malicious. It wouldn’t even have occurred to me to time the interruptions so perfectly, but it definitely leaves me wondering if he even got the message at all, or if he just thought she was the most annoying next-seat passenger ever. I feel inclined to favour the second theory, lol. That’s why I think respectful confrontation is best sometimes.

In the end, I think she did it for her own pleasure and not for teaching him a lesson, and that’s even better; it’s just pure, healthy, malicious enjoyment. Being confrontative to someone who is going to be seated next to you for the next three hours might not be the safest option, but I’m sure, if I were in her position, I would’ve totally told that man that the seat didn’t belong to him because he wasn’t able to buy it, and that I wasn’t obligated to give it to him, lol, that would’ve been so much worse. What would you do? Maybe refer to some authority?
